ITHAKA

ITHAKA

ITHAKA

Grace Crandall

Here is your stop
on the way to Ithaka: the
bleached-white steps, the soft palms,
the slow unfurling of that flag the sun.

Linger here. Watch the white horizon
from your window, wander the shop of
possibility. Adorn your life with the memory
of what you have eaten and been filled by.
Stay

just for a while. Just for these forgiving years.
Here you may walk in the shade-garden
of your new-aching heart. Here you may
drink the bittersweet ichor of life,
yes,

just for a little while.
