Hooking the Eye

Paul J. Pastor

Blessed be the needleโ€™s shank, well-threaded,
passed through cloth, drawn down and over
and right down;
blessed its elegant,
thin point, the silver flick which clicks the thimble;
blessed the staring of its one eye open,
stitching, hitching,
mending tears,
teaching the motion each good life
must take, drawn down and over
and right down.
