Firebird

Firebird

Firebird

Yevgeniya Przhebelskaya

my body yearns for a restful calm
yet often stuck in a firestorm
of discord chords and mikado nights
stepped on left toes and falsetto fights

my friends give me grace, they know me best
when I blur things out or hide in my nest
they know when I fly above the world
a gorgeous and funny ostinato bird

my husband in tandem pirouettes with me
past obstacle courses, we lift off in glee
we are a fine duet, though don’t always agree
on the tonic note of our symphony

I see both of us in our toddler too
a molten swan at the age of two
as birds of a feather we chirp and nest
in an encore of love always praying for the best
