Silent Chorus

Silent Chorus

Silent Chorus

Jody Collins

Dust echoes with his not-voice,
the fingered sentence setting her free.
Onlookers speechless, he bends
again to slice truth in the dirt.
His body unfolds, meets her gaze,
crowd vainly listens behind a wall
of words.
She alone reckons with the lines
of melody at her feet, words to
a hymn only two can sing.
Silent accusers drop their music
and vanish, the day’s mirage.
She departs with freedom’s tune
pouring crystal notes in her open
heart, walks with the song
for the rest of her days.
